i had been wanting this ever since it came out, got it for my birthday and was extremely happy with it. it works a charm, very compatible with the app on my phone and had minimal issues. has only had issues twice (the battery died randomly on me) but I was able to fix this

I used to use Fitbit, but have had an Apple Watch for the last 4 years. It had finally had it, so I opted for this Fitbit as a replacement. It’s a great tracker, and does the basics very well (superior to Apple Watch in terms of activity and sleep tracking).
Knocked off one star as it would be great if it had a side button to activate/deactivate screen, as the double tap thing can be a bit annoying at times.

I have used Fitbit charge 2 for several years, and when it died, I wanted another exercise tracker. I also have a rowing machine and wanted a tracker which would translate rowing strokes into miles or steps travelled. Sadly, the fitbit charge 5 does not sync strokes with a rowing machine, but it will tell me time spent exercising and calories used. However, in all other respects it is almost perfect. It tracks sleep very well. It has less artefact than charge 2, but without a sleep lab verification, I cannot guarantee its validity. The ability to track GPS satellites is amazing! It’s wonderful not to have to use the GPS on my phone! Battery life is reduced by GPS use, but I think one charge of battery is good for over 5 miles of GPS. I have discovered that playing tennis gets my heart rate into cardio but walking only gets it to fat burn! I guess I don’t walk fast enough! The ECG does work, but does not give a visualisation of the trace, even after syncing with an iPhone. It can be used while swimming, just like it says on the tin. It looks sleek and stylish. I personally have no problem with the lack of a “back button”, as some reviewers do. Once you get used to it, it is easy to negotiate the menus. It also syncs steps with the Weight Watchers app!

This feels like half the weight of the Charge 4. Very light on the wrist such that you really do forget it’s there.
The strap is very good; the fastening system not at all intrusive. Mine did detach a week after buying it whilst picking/carrying the toddler and being so light I didn’t notice it was no longer on my wrist. Thankfully some honest soul found it and handed it in. Note it detached where the strap meets the case, not at the fastener. No idea how it happened – I had never fiddled with the strap fixings.
The functionality with the premium membership on the App is fantastic – mine came with 6 months free. £80/year after that seems excessive though. Most of the premium stuff seems like nonsense that can be got for free elsewhere eg all the mindfulness stuff can be got on YouTube. But the app is great and you can get lost in all the data.
Sleep tracking is very interesting but it really only confirms what you already know; eg wake up and think you’ve had a bad nights sleep? Well, the app will tell you that. Wake up and feel you’ve had a greats nights sleep? The app will concur. So, after the first 2 weeks the detailed sleep tracking seems less exciting. You know (without needing an app) if you’ve slept well or not.
It has ECG, pulse oximetry (which isn’t an on demand measurement – it just seems to do it when you’re sleeping as part of sleep monitoring), stress tests. It will monitor you for AF (heart irregularity) which is useful for older folks more at risk and notify you.
I like that plain text messages (iMessages only, sadly – not WhatsApp etc) will show up on the screen meaning I don’t need to get the phone out of my pocket. I like the timer and countdown features.
Not much else to say other than it’s clearly well made, worth the ‘brand’ and does everything excellently. The paid app experience isn’t worth it beyond the free 6 month trial, in my opinion.
Would recommend!

Bought this as a replacement for the version 4 which had been great until the fixing broke off.
This version is very similar but with a few additional functions.
The real downside is that when you want swim or have a shower then you need to remember to switch ‘water lock’ on
The previous model didn’t need this it actually had buttons. Other than that it is great

Having tried other trackers (including a different Fitbit) and returning all of them, I absolutely love this one. It looks really good, works well and the premium trial is packed with loads I have yet to explore. The accuracy is not a 100% but I am still not sure if this is the tracker or errors on my part! Also, if I were not being really vigilant about following Fitbit’s `Wear and Care’ recommendations my skin would badly rash, so I am really happy that after six weeks I am still able to wear it pretty much most of the time. Probably, the most important bit is that it is not only motivating me to exercise but also to try to improve my sleep quality. It really is brilliant…

I bought this one to replace my old Charge 3 that stopped working. It’s really disappointing that Fitbit hasn’t yet made Rowing Machine available as an exercise you can track automatically

The instructions for setting up the Fitbit Charge 5are easy to follow. I had my Fitbit tracker up and running effortlessly. It motivates me to keep a close eye on my fitness levels. I particularly like the sleep tracker and find the results accurate.
