Bon fire night and my six years old grandson burned two fingers on a sparkler.

Grannie quickly went to the fridge for some butter and flour in order kick start her mothers old wives tale of smearing it in butter, then flour and hold the injured part by the fire to “Draw out the burn”!!

I wont tell you what I did with the ingredients, but it involved Grannies rectum and then I dabbed the flour off with cold water and the fingers were put into an open packet of Blot Burn.

My grandson quickly stopped screaming, and ten minutes later it was though there never had been skin trauma to my boy.

I sat my ignorant wife down and taught her the error of her ways.

The crazy thing is I have worked in the Ambulance service for 16 years, and my missus has never listened to a word I’ve said, but listened to her mothers old wives tales much more intently!

    It makes me furious.

This pack consists of ten sachets each containing just under a teaspoonful of viscous fluid gel. Each sachet is enough to give a thin covering over an area the size of the back of an average adult’s forearm.
If you only want to cover a small burn or scald, then there’s enough in a sachet for several applications to that area, letting each layer dry before reapplying another, the layers will help prevent the damaged skin losing fluid.
It is cooling, and does help take the sting out of a burn, but I’d always advocate holding any burn or scald under cold running water for ten minutes before doing anything else. Burns and scalds are horrible things, and they hurt like hell.

To be honest, I prefer the Burnshield Spray for small areas, it’s easier to control the amount you use, without wastage, or the Burnshield dressing, which is a piece of thin ‘foam’ like material saturated with this fluid, which can be held on by a wrap of cling film to keep it wet. Minor burns and scalds heal better if they can be kept in a clean and moist environment.

These sachets are best used, (in my opinion) for treating awkward areas like part of a hand, or fingers, that you can slather the gel on to and then wrap the injury in a cling film bandage or polythene bag to keep it wet for a couple of hours to minimise damage and promote healing.

But by far the best use for these little sachets is for treating people’s sunburn. It’s better than anything else I’ve come across.

No, when I burn myself I don’t say that either – but Amazon would probably shoot me if I wrote down what I do say & I’m sure you’re just the same; if so read on. As a medical man I’m the worst when it comes to treating myself, but burns are serious things and need instant attention or things get very squishy incredibly quickly. TA-DA! Burnshield – please don’t go out deliberately to burn yourself to test the product – just buy a packet and wait patiently in any household environment and the gods of hot things will oblige sooner or later. Rush to your first aid kit – blow away the spider nesting quietly in one corner and take out your Burnshield sachet – open and apply to your recent boo-boo (heat trauma area, smarty pants!). Sounds of ooh, aah and ‘that’s a bit better’ will be heard. The active ingredients allow greater heat dissipation and the wound really does benefit – but once again for those not listening at the back – burns are very serious and this excellent product helps initially but please treat all burns carefully and with respect – especially for children. In my humble opinion a real ‘must have’ for every home & family, scout pack, hen night or special forces operation.

one fine evening in an inebriated state I thought to myself “what would complement my array of beverages?” it then struck me that of course the solution was a batchelors pasta and sauce cooked in a lazy fashion in the microwave. I put the boiling water, milk and cheese into the mix and thus commenced the culinary marvel. on removing the clingfilm my fingers were engulfed in a blast of steam akin to Satans farts, which being too drunk and slow to react scalded my fingers mightily. I ran them under the tap for ten minutes but the damage was done and I had an excruciating throbbing pain which I was taking in a less than manly fashion. I debated about making a prat out of myself at A&E because I was in so much pain when I remembered I had something similar to this product knocking about in a first aid kit. I dubiously applied this to the burnt areas and the relief was almost instant. I managed to consume some more beer as well as my pasta culminating a lovely night in front of the telly. in short I keep several of these in the kitchen now to avoid any further drunken pasta fuelled crisis.

This is a must for any first aid kit, especially if you have children. This is a repeat purchase item which I would not be without for minor burns.
When the gel is applied to the burn or scald it very quickly cools the area down taking the sting out of the burn.
With this item there is no requirement to run the affected area under the cold tap for 10 minutes, tear open the sachet and apply, within seconds it begins to work. It is ideal for younger children who will quickly appreciate the no fuss easy application and quick results. I have used the sachets for hot water scalds and splashes, and when the oven tins have been handled whilst still hot. My daughter took some sachets back to Uni with her and were put to use in the first week.
